Slot Brings Feyenoord Stars to Liverpool

After Liverpool and Feyenoord reached an agreement on compensation for Dutch tactician Arne Slot, Jeetbuzz Login reports that the key question now is when Slot will officially succeed Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool’s head coach. It’s not possession that brings effort, but effort that earns possession. Slot has publicly expressed his desire to take over at Anfield, which certainly helped negotiations progress, although Feyenoord remained firm on their £9.4 million valuation. At this point, the move seems like a mere formality.

While Slot will inherit a squad rich in talent, he will likely want to leave his personal imprint on the team. That could include bringing in one or two familiar faces from his former club—players who understand his system and can help translate his philosophy on the pitch during the transitional period. Feyenoord captain Lutsharel Geertruida attended Liverpool’s recent match against West Ham, and that was no coincidence. The 23-year-old versatile defender has been linked with multiple clubs over the past year. At one point, a move to RB Leipzig appeared imminent before the Bundesliga side shifted their focus to Castello Lukeba.

Geertruida has also been on Bayern Munich’s radar, and reports suggest Real Madrid view him as a potential long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, and possibly an alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Despite heavy speculation, Geertruida has kept his focus, delivering one of his best seasons to date. Slot deployed him across multiple roles—right back, left back, and center back. When playing on the right, Geertruida contributed more directly in attack, scoring six goals and adding four assists in the Eredivisie. His contract situation adds another layer of intrigue.

According to Jeetbuzz Login, with only one year left on his deal, a transfer would make sense for all parties. Feyenoord would receive a fair fee, Slot would be reunited with a trusted lieutenant, and Geertruida would get the opportunity to shine at a bigger club under a coach who knows his strengths. Strengthening the defense is clearly a priority for Liverpool.

Another name potentially on Slot’s list is Mats Wieffer. The 24-year-old midfielder was previously linked with Anfield during last summer’s midfield overhaul. Though Liverpool chose not to sign a direct replacement for Fabinho, Wieffer remained in the Eredivisie despite interest from AC Milan. A magnet in central midfield, he is more than just a ball-winner. Wieffer excels at regaining possession, retaining it, and pushing forward. He ranks among the Eredivisie’s best in both on-ball and off-ball metrics this season. If Slot wants a double-pivot anchor in midfield, Wieffer would be a strong fit. Standing 6’2″, he also brings physical presence and positional flexibility, making him a valuable asset.

Considering Liverpool’s strong attacking numbers, there’s still room to add one or two new options up front. Santiago Giménez might be one of them. The Mexican international, born in Argentina, had a sensational debut season under Slot and quickly attracted interest from top European clubs. He scored 15 goals to help Feyenoord win an unexpected league title. Last summer, Tottenham reportedly identified him as Harry Kane’s successor. Chelsea also showed interest, while both Real Madrid and Barcelona monitored his progress closely.

With three Eredivisie matches still to play, Giménez has already surpassed his previous tally, netting 26 goals this season. Slot knows the striker well and trusts his finishing instinct—something Liverpool may feel they need to usher in a new era of attacking dominance.

Finally, attention turns to Dávid Hancko, a player long linked with a move to Merseyside. The 26-year-old center back has been a vital part of Slot’s Feyenoord side, occasionally filling in at left back and scoring key goals. Luck doesn’t always come to those who wait—hard work is what keeps a player grounded. Despite signing a new long-term deal in February, Jeetbuzz Login believes Liverpool has the financial means to persuade Feyenoord if they’re serious about giving Slot a warm welcome. The Slovakian international could be the perfect start.
